Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Ogbonna is our best defender.

Should be playing.

End of.

But people turning on Slaven after 4 games? Short memories!!!

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Also, what the fuck is he doing keeping our best CB on the bench?

Complete mystery.

I like him but Reid has had a shocking start to the season IMO.

Should've spent money on a new CB.

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Slav is starting to concern me.

I said it the other week, the honeymoon period is over. The goodwill he had for replacing Sam is used up now.

Calleri coming on for Noble was one of the most bizarre substitutions I've seen for a long long time.

We needed someone to strength the play wide and to hold up the ball. We were crying out for Fletcher.

Instead, we got the idiot who couldn't trap a bag of cement instead. And Fletcher came on far too late.

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
I just feel that there shouldn't be big issues between players and manager.

Its a FOOTBALL CLUB not a knitting circle
The manager is in charge of 25-30 footballers all of whom think they should be in the team.
Many of them tend to be CUNTS as well
I'd be worried if there weren't some players in the group not falling out with the manager.

My concern is whether Bilic is prepared to accept that some players he rates .... Tore, Calleri, Nordviedt for example ..... have been shit and whether he treats other players with the same kid gloves.
And if someone needs dropping he is prepared to put sentimentality aside.
As mentioned on the other thread the likes of Noble and Kouyate need a performance and shouldn't be immune from the HOOK.

Collins is a good defender when parking the bus. He's lack of pace is not exposed. In open game like yesterday's he's not the right selection and Ogbonna is the better option.

But I do agree we were taking the piss a bit at 2-0 and lost concentration.

The team selection Saturday was bang on.

The players got complacent when we went 2-0 up, and fucked it up.

Shouldn't you have to have some sort of qualification to start a thread on westhamonline these days?

Getting more worried now with team selection and substitutions.

We'll know over the next couple of months if this is just a blip or if it's a full blown Roeder second season nightmare.
Either way we should have done better so far

CBA to read the thread, but based on the thread title itself all I can say is 'LOL!'

Normal service will resume this season
We simply can't compete against the big boys as is.
8th would be par this season.

That's the reality.
Im fine with that..

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Agree with Mad Dog and to add the new managers are a step up from last year - Conte, Guardiola and Mourinho are going to always put out tough teams. With getting used to the new stadium it was always going to be tough for Bilic this year. I fully expect him to come good at the end though.

Mad Dog 2:01 Mon Aug 29
Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Posted this on thr other billic thread, but equally relevant here.

He's made a few "interesting" choices this season. However let's get some perspective.

We've played Chelsea and man city away. They have money to burn.potential champions

We have several key players out. Basically the majority of our attacking threat.

Despite being under the kosh we came close to sneaking a result against both. And both should have had a player sent off.

Our home game was a banana skin, and whilst not a good game we got away with it. Again with a ridiculously depleted team.

The team will adapt to playing at the new ground. This can be tricky for many teams when they change grounds.

We have lanzini back now, payet almost ready, zaza ready to go. Feghoili, carroll, ayew, and Cresswell to return.

This could have been a lot worse.

Yesterday billic made a mistake in the first half. In the 2nd he replaced tore with byram and antonio pushing forward vastly improved the team. Until reid went off after the elbow it looked like we could nick a point.

Things will be fine.

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Quite often last season we weren't great first half and Bilic tinkered at half time to sort issues out - so often in fact that I sometimes wondered if he'd even bothered to scout the opposition before the game!

I have concerns about some of his stubborn insistence on trying things that just aren't working (Antonio at right back should be banned - might as well play payet left back and Lanzini centre back too!) but if everyone bar cresswell ayew and Carroll is fit for our next run of games then things could get interesting. There aren't a lot of teams who could cope without their two record signing strikers and a first choice full back let alone the other injuries we've got.

Admittedly we should still have had enough to beat the Romanians but on another day that second half display would have got us 5 goals - their keeper made some great saves and we were unfortunate despite a bad display. We only just lost to Chelsea and deserved a come back yesterday but got sucker punched by a late counter attack. And in both games the opposition should have played the last half hour with 10 men. Bournemouth was a poor game all round but we still got a win and a clean sheet - I'm confident we'll be around the same place as last season and if we can avoid more injuries we could push on

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
The Antonio thing is an issue but Sakho is a mental cunt and has only himself to blame for his current status.

As for the team, I wonder how any other clubs would perform without the majority of their creative players and goal threats?

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
He's got the next 8 or 9 fixtures against 'lesser' opponents so he has the opportunity to get things back on track. He's just not setting up his team selections very well and I'm getting rather pissed off.

Alex V 1:41 Mon Aug 29
Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
We have one of the easiest run of fixtures you could hope for coming up - if we're still all at sea after the next six games we're probably going down whoever the manager, simple as that!

Sir Alf 1:38 Mon Aug 29
Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
He's still getting most of it right but if anything he has been too ambitious with the players at his disposal and trying things (formations/tactics) that are beyond their capabilities. Well some of them.

The persistence with Valencia is really the main gripe and the Antonio at right back or in a defensive role. But I think he has abandoned the latter although yesterday thought the 3 at the back would mean Antonio getting forward rather than defending. That was more a tactical ploy that did not work rather than thinking Antonio is myright back. The back 3 is supposed to avoid that to some extent.

Nah, as mentioned by others, injury disrupted early season, failure to get a striker early and World Cup/Olympics impacting. He has a lot of new players and has not found out the best line ups yet. You can buy players you think you need for positions or if they are just good players to have but getting the blend can take a little time.

This season, unlike many, I was expecting a tougher campaign anyway. The big boys have thrown money at it and every team is strengthening. We have moved stadium and contended with the Europa which along with pre-season brought about a string of injuries.

Give it 10 games at least when most of the first players are back and match fit (will take 2 or 3 for Lanzini, Payet) . Might be able to start worrying a little then if we still look all at sea.

Willtell 1:27 Mon Aug 29
Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
I personally think Bilic is very good. Our problem is that we haven't been ready for the two seasons.

Our key players were given holidays after the Euros and Lanzini and Calleri were at the Olympics. We couldn't sign a decent striker for love nor money and the existing ones had either turned to shit or got injured. Then we have had a foreign pre-season tour and Europa Cup games to contend with.

We signed a striker/winger but then he got crocked and we have just signed Zaza now. Our fortune's been hiding and I normally I get angry about International breaks but not this year.

We'll be like a new team in 2 weeks....

Must admit I feel a lot better having seen some of the other potential strugglers this season. As poor as we've been so far this season, there are others look just as bad.

Re: Billic - A bit of a worry
Football is changing.

We have owners that care. We have premier league status. A large and profitable stadium. A good academy. A large squad with lots of quality.

There are plenty of shit teams ready for relegation this season and we aren't one of them. It's not going to be an enthralling season so just get used to being a half decent prem team and appreciate what we are. It could be a lot fucking worse.
